CCTV Cameras in Georgetown [News Source photo)

Policemen and women will now be able to see where you are in several part of Georgetown and its environs because they are being given real-time access to surveillance camera feeds, government announced on Wednesday.

Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon said the decision was made by the Defence Board. Authorities have also identified 10 additional sites at which 40 more cameras are to be installed.

He said the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) would now be given direct access to real-time feeds from government’s Close Circuit Television (CCTV) feeds to help track down criminals.

Previously, only government’s Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) located in the compound of Castellani House, Vlissengen Road had access to the feed.

Police had previously said that their work in clamping down on criminal activities would have been easier if they had been allowed to keep an eye on what is happening around the City.
