Essequibo U17 player David Chalitar grabbed five wickets, while Leorayan Ramlakhan struck and unbeaten 94 as Good Success and Maria’s Pleasure recorded victories when the Wakenaam Cricket Committee/ Badri Prasad Memorial T20 competition commenced on Sunday. Good Success defeated Sans Souci by four wickets in the opening fixture at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground. Chalitar bowled impressively to finish with 5-17 as Sans Souci were bowled out for 97 in 17.2 overs, batting first. Omal Bacon made 25 as skipper Imran Khan and Vickram Ramnarine supported Chalitar with 2-10 and 2-17 respectively. Good Success responded with 99-6 in 13.3 overs with Khan scoring 31; Bacon returned to capture 2-24. In the afternoon fixture at the said venue, Maria’s Pleasure led by an attacking innings beat Sans Souci Jaguars by six wickets. Sans Souci Jaguars took first strike and scored 156 all out in 17.4 overs. Safraz Mohamed struck 49, Siddiq Mohamed 26 and Gladwin Henry 21. Alec Clemenson bagged 4-28 and Kennard Lewis 3-29. Maria’s Pleasure responded with 158-4 in 11.5 overs with Ramlakhan leading the chase. Timothy Singh contributed 23 not out; Derwin Daniels took 1-23. The competition continues on Sunday.
