AmCham Guyana was officially launched on Monday evening at the Marriott Hotel. President of the organisation, Zulfikar Ally committed to fostering relations between the private sector and government.
“We are aware that Guyana means business and with AmCham Guyana, we can assure you it will not be business as usual. We want to bring new ideas new technologies and new skills to the market and be the leader in private sector change,” Ally, who is the Corporate Secretary of the Queens Atlantic Investment Incorporated (QAII), said.
He added, collaborating with the government and key agencies like GO-INVEST is key to ensuring these objectives are met. AmCham will facilitate businesses that are seeking to invest and build Guyana through its next growth trajectory as the country enters a new era in her history, Ally noted.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge who is currently performing the functions of Prime Minister, encouraged the organisation to pay special attention be trading beyond primary resources, especially services.
“We are one of those states where our exports of services are negligible and that is something that is important. It is an indication to you one, of our aspirations as a government and our hope that you as businessmen, Guyanese or US business, understands our prosperity also depends on the diversification of the Guyana economy,” Minister Greenidge said.
Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin, noted the introduction of AmCham Guyana could increase business between the two countries. He also gave assurances that the government is working to eliminate the bureaucracy of doing business in Guyana.
“Our government is taking action to automate many of the inefficient business processes that are currently causing grief and encouraging corrupt practices in Guyana. It is a slow process but that process has started,” Minister Gaskin assured.
