Who remembers having such fun ?

I can remember rolling an a old bicycle wheel with a piece of stick in the groove as guidance and get it in motion.

I never was able to manage the stick in the groove of the rim. Use to just stick with the tyre or the scooter

Come to think of it it is we Guyanese that had those scooters first

Yep I remember we use to secure  a piece of tire over rear wheel bearing you could step on it with your heels for brakes that make you turn on a dime...real cool..

Those ball bearings used to proppa damage up de concrete. One time, one of my grandparents' tenants threw out a baby stroller and I was so happy because I replaced my ball bearings scooter wheels with the two sets of stroller wheels. Suddenly my noisy scooter was rolling on the concrete like a Jaguar. 

This was my worse enemy.

COlonial Williamsburg have these round wooden ones you could use a stick to beat and roll (like we used to do with bicycle tires). They have it as a throwback to what American kids used to play with over 100 years ago. When I took one and started rolling and controlling with the stick, folks looking on were amazed

It is called making do with poverty in Guyana....american kids their age would be out on skateboards etc.  These kids do not have Cable or the internet or xbox or P4 etc. They are making do with imagination. One fellow could not even procure his own tire!

It is easy to learn...there are lots of tricks to it. The teachers could not teach my child his tables in weeks and I did it in an afternoon. I started a thread here a few years ago so we can discuss specific mathematical tricks but no one seem to care. It probably still is on the site.
