The Chinese Government yesterday said that over the past 39 years China and Guyana have maintained a sound momentum of growth.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador Yu Wenzhe said that this year 2011, in terms of relations both countries have supported each other in developing bilateral and international issues.

The event was attended by the diplomatic core, distinguished guests, the Head of State, and leaders of the PPP and APNU.

Ambassador Yu Wenzhe said in the first half of this year the bilateral trade grew by 15.8 per cent and is expected to surpass US$100M this year. China will also donate 30,000 laptops to the One Laptop Per Family programme.

Adding that the construction of the two ferry vessels donated by the Chinese Government is going according to schedule, the ambassador said the vessels will be delivered at the end of the year.

The Head of State, Bharrat Jagdeo said the powerful China has been a giant in the world, and has been a beacon in the developed world.

He said Chinese investors are welcomed in Guyana and would be treated equally among investors.
