The Chronicle applauds Speaker of the National Assembly Raphael Trotman. Yesterday, he accorded Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee his Constitutional right and allowed him to address the National Assembly. In so doing, Mr.Trotman angered his opposition colleagues who protested by leaving the chamber en masse.
Three cheers for Trotman. He stood his ground and made it possible for Minister Rohee to have his say, even in the face of opposition requests that he change his mind and shut up the minister. And so Minister Rohee was able to address the House on plans to reform the security forces.

The chronicle was right in praising the honorable speaker for being neutral in his ruling since he became speaker of the house. Despite the disrespect he receives form the opposition he favored in every sitting, the ruling government recognizes him for exhibiting neutrality in parliament. His recent ruling to recognize the right of an elected Minister sets a new precedent in the nation's parliament. This may not hold up well with the combine opposition, but they will have to get used to it.

The speaker's latest ruling allowing Rohee to speak should not be taken as a significant political development for or by the PPP-C .....Trotman was just saving face as he originally asked the court for a ruling on whether to allow Rohee to speak or not....the court ruled that Rohee could speak so Trotman had no choice bu to go along with their ruling....I questioned Trotman's original request as he of all persons should have known that parliament is the highest authority in the land......

Shouldn't A Speaker know the RULES, why was it necessary to ask a Court?? I am sure Mr Ramkarran would have been willing to TEACH Trotty.
