SEVERAL recounts of the ballot last night delayed the declaration of the new PNCR leader. The results were delayed after claims that the number of votes was higher than that of the registered delegates. The claims were reportedly made by Carl Greenidge supporters.
Meanwhile Basil Williams dethroned Cammie Ramsaroop to take the position of party chairman.
That result was calmly accepted, but the contention was with the position of party leader, which was closely contested by David Granger and Carl Greenidge.
Granger is head of A Partnership for National Unity and is Opposition Leader, while Greenidge was Finance Minister under the PNC regime.
This is not the first time accusations of fraud were made regarding the party's internal elections.
