The holder of the Caribbean title on several occasions, Guyana’s Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira despite leading the points standing is not taking the opposition lightly and is setting his sights on dominating the third leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) at Bushy Park in Barbados this weekend.
The local speedster, who will be astride a Kawasaki ZX6R, will be aiming to produce a dominant performance to hold off his fast charging cousins Matthew and Elliott and the rest of the Caribbean in what is shaping up to be a close race to the final leg in Guyana.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport recently, Vieira, who was upstaged by Matthew in the Trinidad and Tobago leg at Wallerfield, expressed confidence ahead of this weekend’s showdown which is anticipated to generate much interest in the Superstock category.
Vieira, who has always done well at the Bushy Park Circuit, is well-liked in the island territory, told this newspaper that he is hoping the machine holds up well which will allow him to put on a treat for the massive following of support that he enjoys there.
Beset by a few mechanical hiccups in the T&T leg that slightly affected his overall performance the skilful Guyanese rider spoke of the modifications that the team has done which according to him puts him in better shape to repel the anticipated challenges he will face.
He reported that the team has done some modifications to the engine and early testing has shown that it is in perfect working condition.
“We realised that we were losing power in Trinidad so on our return home we did a pressure test and it revealed that the one of the cylinders was dead so we changed the entire engine. We will be going to Barbados with a much better engine, one that we are confident that will perform well for us,” Vieira said.
He reckoned that apart from Elliott and Matthew, Barbados’ Brooke Miller, who has been riding fast according to early reports, could be another threat.
Vieira extended much gratitude to his main sponsor Sunburst Orange Juice as well as Palm Court, Pure Racing, Top End Fitness Gym and Paul Da Silva among others.
