‘Players will be allowed to play in CGI 50-over league’ says Manager Griffith

The mood was celebratory as leaders and defending Champions Guyana Jaguars departed for home yesterday evening after over three weeks on the road.

“I’m definitely satisfied with the way the team played in general. Two wins and a draw from three games is very good and we are happy that we were able to extend our lead,” said 35-year-old Head Coach Esuan Crandon.
Jaguars won the toss and amassed 484-8 declared against Red Force and Crandon said that pitch at the Brian Lara Academy was best for batting on the first two days but explained that because of its slow nature and inconsistent pace and bounce it got very difficult to bat on as the match progressed.
“It spun from day one which was a good sign for our spinners. I taught we played the situation well by batting for five and a half session and put pressure on the Trinidadians,” stated Crandon.
“(Leon) Johnson and Tagenarine (Chanderpaul) played superbly in this match. I thought they displayed great fight and determination after a poor start to the tournament. Both were willing to spend time at the crease,” Crandon pointed out.
“Vishaul Singh is in very good form at the moment and seems to be very hungry for success. It’s pleasing to see the Captain leading from the front with a huge score which has done him and the team well. That hundred will surely boost his confidence for the remaining games,” continued Crandon.
“The bowlers were outstanding in this game and it was a tremendous effort to pick up sixteen wickets on day three. Permaul continues to dominate at this level, with nine wickets in the match, while I thought Motie bowled very well after missing the previous two matches,” added the former Guyana pacer.
He disclosed that Joseph and Paul were very effective on a low and slow track and both bowled with accuracy and were very consistent with their line and lengths.
Despite the success, the opening starts continue to be a worry. Rajendra Chandrika and young Chanderpaul added 53 for the first wicket in the first game at Providence but that has been the only 50-run stand by the openers.
“Yes the openers didn’t give us a great start in terms runs but the time spent would’ve definitely helped the make things a little easier for the middle order…but it’s an area that we will be working on diligently to rectify,” stated Coach Crandon.
“We have a week break from this competition which is well deserved …it’s about managing the players work load and at the same time ensure everyone stays focus and continue to do the things that has brought us success,” Crandon concluded.
Meanwhile, former National quickie Rayon Griffith, in his role as Manager informed that the players will be allowed to participate in the CGI Jaguars’ 50-over Franchise League which starts today but added the players, especially the pacers, will be monitored.
Griffith, the Chairman of Selectors hinted that there could be changes for the squad to face Barbados at Providence from November 30 but added that the squad has not been picked as yet.
