Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud said the identity of the man was not immediately available.
He confirmed that the incident occurred about 2 AM at the home of Merano Jeffrey also known as Warrie.
Two other bandits escaped when Jeffrey, a member of the CPG, opened fire with the CPGβs shotgun that he had in his possession at the time.
Investigators were told that Jeffreyβs father, who is a fisherman and owner of several boats, heard a noise and when he looked outside he saw two men in the yard.
His son and the now dead bandit exchanged gunfire and missed each other. Jeffrey took cover in a nearby room and ambushed the gunman, shooting him in his face and neck.
A .22 handgun was found in possession of the dead bandit and one of the escapees dropped a bag and a .38 handgun near the fence.
