With nine days remaining before the constitutional deadline for holding elections expires, British High Commissioner to Guyana, Gregory Quinn, is reminding Guyana’s leaders that the clock is ticking, even as a civil society group is urging President David Granger to announce a date for the polls.

After March 21, 2019, the APNU/AFC Coalition Government effectively becomes illegal. The only way this can change is if the Parliamentary Opposition – People’s Progressive Party – votes for an extension of the life of the Government; but Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo says he will do so only if the Head of State announces a date for elections before the expiry of the current voters’ list on April 30, 2019.
Perhaps still firmly embedded deep in the thoughts of the current PNCR leaders are the process conducted by Forbes Burnham that the order of rule, governance and laws in Guyana are ....
1. PNCR
2. President
3. PNCR members of parliament
4. Other members of Parliament
5. Etc., etc., etc...
Lastly, the Constitution simply as a show piece.
From the Guyana Times. The British HC is more concerned about whether he will have a job and whether his next assignment will be in South Sudan. Brexit is the dominant thought in his head. The junior assistant to the desk officer for the Caribbean cannot be bothered with Guyana. The UK is interested in the DR, Cuba and Venezuela.
