Police shot and killed an accused bandit yesterday morning following a confrontation in front of his Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo home.
Dead is 19-year-old Noel “Kevin” Kissoon, of 808 Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, who police say was wearing a ring that was stolen during an attack on a Zeelugt couple less than 12 hours before he met his demise.
According to a Guyana Police Force statement, Kissoon, who was armed with a handgun, pounced on the couple just around 7 pm while they were on their verandah.
It is alleged that he relieved them of an undisclosed sum of cash, four cellphones, two gold bands and a finger ring before assaulting the couple with his gun and escaping.
According to the police, acting on information received, ranks went to Kissoon’s home around 5.45 am and upon their arrival they were met by the suspect, who was allegedly brandishing a handgun in a “menacing manner.”
It was alleged that Kissoon pointed the gun at ranks, thus resulting in him being shot once in the lower region of his abdomen. He was subsequently rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police also reported that the ring stolen from the Zeelugt couple was being worn by Kissoon, while the other stolen items, excluding the cash, were found in his house.
Kissoon is known to the police as he was previously convicted on charges of break and entry, larceny and is currently before the court for armed robbery, rape and possession of narcotics.
According to police, he was also wanted in connection with several recent robberies and the indecent assault of a woman.
