Cops nab gang trailing businessman from bank
Police believe that they have smashed a gang of robbers that has been targeting businessmen, particularly after they have visited commercial banks.
The three suspects were captured around 11.30hrs yesterday while trailing a businessman who had visited the Demerara Bank Limited at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.Kaieteur News understands that the businessman had just left the bank when he observed a white Toyota Spacio, PPP 2662, with three men inside, trailing his vehicle.
The intended victim stopped at two other locations to transact business, and saw that the vehicle was still following him.
The businessman immediately sought refuge at a Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara location, and contacted the police.When the ranks arrived, the suspects were still in the vicinity. One seeing the lawmen, one of the men fled from the car and tried to board a minibus. He was however, captured, as well as his accomplices. The vehicle was also impounded.
Police identified the suspects as Afzal Khan, of Lot 154 La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara and Belle West , West Bank Demerara; Rondel Seon Douglas called βUncleβ of Lot 45 Palm Street, Werk-en-Rust, and Lot 1360 Diamond East Bank Demerara; and Parmanand Rampersaud, of Diamond Housing Scheme.Khan and Douglas are known βtruckersβ.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum disclosed that police have CCTV footage of the same men breaking into a car in Alberttown some three weeks ago, and making off with cash and a firearm.
