Couple robbed $150,000; husband shot

[www.inewsguyana.com] - A woman and her husband are the latest victims of robberies in Georgetown involving the use of firearms when they were attacked by gunmen on Thursday (February 20) on Church Str...eet, Georgetown. According to police, at about 12:30hrs, 39 – year – old Sunil Ramesh and his wife, 36 – year - old Anjanie Ramesh were attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. Ramesh was shot and injured to his chest and right shoulder, reportedly while going to his wife’s assistance, who was robbed of a bag containing $150,000.00 and documents. The perpetrators escaped on a motor cycle. Ramesh has been admitted to a Private Hospital while investigations are in progress.

A 16-year old boy was shot during a failed robbery at a money-changer’s home at Number 69 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, residents said.

Police sources confirmed that the lad, only known as Umo, was shot and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital for treatment. However, investigators said nothing was stolen.
The incident occurred about 8 PM at the residence of the foreign exchange trader only known as ‘Ole Daag’. He changes currencies at the Corentyne Market.

No one has been held by police.
This is the second money changer to have been attacked in less than 24 hours, the first being 42-year old Bridgelall Persaud who was shot dead while driving his car on Lombard Street, Georgetown on Thursday morning.
The bandits grabbed a bag containing GUY$1 million and escaped on a motorcycle. Four hours later on Church Street near the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) Sunil Ramesh was shot twice and a bag containing GUY$150,000 and important documents was snatched from his wife, Anjanie.

Arming oneself does not guarantee one's safety. It merely boost one's confidence to a point. People, especially in the business sector needs to be more watchful and alert since it would appear that they are unable or unwilling to break away from this bad habit of moving around with large amounts of cash.

Criminals seems to always have the element of surprise on their side. Look how many armed businessmen got robbed, shot and their weapon taken away from them. Again, being alert is the key. WHy don't you guys ignore these comments. WHile we all know it's a lie, they can also say that blaming PPP for the murders committed is also a lie. I know it is more logical to blame PPP for the crime situation ( after all, they are in control)...I am not sure how one would handle lies on a messageboard. This a lie. The PPP participating in a murder for hire scheme is documented. Mara told me before the story broke exactly who are the people involved and who he thought at the time hired them. He turned out to be right. It is one of the reasons today I do not trust the PPP. I was here defending them and blaming all the murders on the PNC.

Blaming the PPP for a poor handle on crime is not the same as saying every crime is an opposition project to prime their elections coffers. It is commenting on a lacking in proper handling of their responsibility. one is not saying the PPP are the ones committing the crimes. We all know these are street are opportunistic thugs who ply their trade because the incompetent police is not doing their jobs/

The police can't be everywhere at the same time. The bandits' full time job is to scope out business people and target them for robberies. The police can only try to find evidence to arrest people after the the crime. Phantomizing was effective against these crimes until they were disbanded. As long as the afc/pnc lawyers and leaders jump up to protect the criminals and lambaste the police, these robberies will continue. It also does not help that Guyanese businesses deal in cash almost exclusively.
