Cricket Clubs in the ancient county of Berbice continue to benefit from the outstanding work of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS. Guyanaβs leading youth and sports organisation with the support of the Fitness 53 Gym and Ramnaresh Sarwan. On Thursday last they handed over a large collection of trophies and cricket balls to eight cricket clubs and one Sub-association. The donation which was mainly sponsored by the former West Indies Captain and batting star was done under the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Cricket Development Outreach Programme which seeks to assist cricket clubs in the Ancient County to offer the game as an alternative to a life on the road and away from the evil ways of Satan. Those receiving the donation of balls and trophies were Blairmont, Police, Upper Corentyne, Chesney, Kildonan, Mount Sinai, Fort Canje Mental Hospital, Rose Hall Canje and Guymine Cricket Clubs. Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster at the simple presentation Ceremony proudly stated that the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club was privileged to work along with its Honourary Member Ramnaresh Sarwan to assist Berbice Cricket. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Foster stated is totally committed towards making the development of cricket and remains the only cricket club in the West Indies which assists its rivals to better themselves. The Club and its ten cricket teams βFarfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Females, King Solomon Logistics Under-12 and Poonai Pharmacy Under-13, Gizmos & Gadgets Under-21 and First Division Teams have donated over $3M worth of cricket balls, scorebooks, cricket gears, trophies, medals and educational materials in 2017. Foster stated that in 2018, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club would be assisting over 60 cricket clubs as part of an expanded Say No to Drugs and Yes to Sports Programme which would target over 100,000 youths in the ancient county. Speaking directly to the executives of the Clubs, the long serving Club Secretary urged them to always strive for excellence and to come up with visionary ideas to lift Berbice Cricket out of its current dormant state. He also expressed gratitude to Ramnaresh Sarwan, his parents and brother Ravi of Fitness 53 Gym for their contribution. Representatives of the Club were high in their praise of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and the Fitness 53 Gym for their assistance, noting that the donation would assist them to fulfill their mandates. Some of the Clubs noted that they were privileged enough to receive cricket balls three times during 2017 from the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and this assisted them a great deal. Representatives of Mount Sinai, Fort Canje Mental Hospital, Kildonan and Guymine, however, expressed great disappointment that they were not invited or informed of the Berbice Cricket Board Second Division Tournament. The four Clubs which were recently reformed and hosted elections for Office Bearers were left out of the Tournament despite having teams available. The presentation of the items represented the 660th programmes/activities of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club for 2017. The Club had set itself a target of 500 for the year but has surpassed that on the 2nd September, 2017. It has now set itself a target of 700 programme/activities to be achieved by the 31st December, 2017.
