Two traffic police slapped with corruption charges
[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two traffic ranks attached to Sparendaam Police Station were on Tuesday brought to the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer corruption charges.
Twenty four – year – old Marvin Thomas of Amelia’s Ward, Linden and 30 – year – old Fitzroy Nicholson of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, were both released on $20,000 bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan after pleading not guilty to the joint charge.
It is alleged that on September 9, they corruptly obtained from Nazeem Khan the sum of $30,000 as an inducement for forbearing to charge him with the traffic offence of overtaking on
double solid yellow lines.
Police prosecutor Dinero Jones, did not reveal the prosecution facts to the court. Also the prosecutor did not oppose bail and indicated that the investigation file was completed.
Both defendants were represented by Attorney Patrice Henry.
He pleaded that since each of his clients was charged they have been cooperating with the police throughout the investigation.
Henry requested that the matter be transferred to the Sparendaam Magistrate Court for October 7.
