Pastor arrested for raping church member

A 37-year-old pastor is now in Police custody following an accusation made against him by a female member of his congregation, who alleged he raped her at his Diamond, East Bank Demerara home last month.
According to information received, the man, who is said to be attached to a full gospel church, had provided counselling to the young adult and her mother two years ago, after the passing of a loved one.
However, the young lady told Police that the pastor invited her to his home where she was stripped, pushed onto the bed and was sexually violated.

She reportedly told detectives that before committing the act, the pastor would drink a Guinness and perform a ritual before raping her.
Apart from the young woman, another church member reportedly told detectives that she ended her relationship with the pastor after his wife found out about the affair, but the pastor continues to stalk and make sexual advances towards her.
Police have since launched an investigation into the matter.

–relieves delivery boys of β€˜petty-cash,’ valuables

TWO unsuspecting Guyana Beverages Inc. employees were robbed by a lone gunman on Tuesday morning at Ingrid’s Grocery at Lot 338 Lamaha Park, Georgetown.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 09:40hrs, and according to the owner of the small shop, Ingrid Kennedy, the beverage people had just arrived to take her orders and were about to go get the stock when the man pulled out a gun and relieved them of whatever little β€˜petty-cash’ they had on them, as well as their wallets and cellphones.

According to one of many eyewitnesses, the bandit had the gun hidden under his shirt.

On seeing that, the shop owner began shouting, β€œThief! Thief!” But by that time, the gunman had already got what he was after and made good his escape on a CG motorcycle which was being ridden by an accomplice.

Ms Kennedy said that from the time she laid eyes on the strange young man, she somehow knew he was up to no good.

And her hunch proved right when he whipped out the gun; but the poor delivery boys were too traumatised to put up a fight and just handed over the goodies.

The Guyana Beverages Inc. yesterday confirmed that two of their employees called in to report that they had been robbed, but was unsure of the amount, since they had not returned to the office and were said to be with the police.

In response to calls for help from Lamaha Park residents, Head of the Forensic Laboratory, Superintendent Philip Azore himself turned up on the scene, while ranks were dispatched to hunt down the two criminals, who were observed riding round and round following the robbery as if they were not yet satisfied with the day’s β€œpickings” and were in search of more easy prey.
And, as luck would have it, within hours the police were reporting that one of the two suspects had been arrested and is assisting with the investigation.

They’ve also reported impounding two CG motorcycles, one of which was allegedly involved in the hold-up.

The two victims were able to positively identify the motorcycle as the one that was used in perpetrating the robbery that morning.

Frustrated residents gathered at the shop following the incident told the Guyana Chronicle that they cannot sleep at nights for fear of being robbed.

Just recently, the home of Ministry of the Presidency’s photographer, Ms Sandra Prince, was broken into, and important documents among other valuables were carted off.

Residents say the area has seen a series of break-ins lately, mostly at nights, by what appears to be a well–organised gang of criminals. Many are afraid to be on the streets after dark, as almost every night there’s a hold-up.

Superintendent Azore told the Guyana Chronicle that following a community meeting with Lamaha Park residents two Sundays ago, the police have been doing some work in the area, including regular mobile patrols.

He told residents on Tuesday that based on information garnered, the bandits who operate in the area are being harboured by a few bad eggs in the community, and urged them to remain vigilant and report all incidents of criminal activities, since the police can only do so much.

He is expected to hold another community meeting with residents shortly.

Woodlands Hospital (photo from Simply Guyana)

A  cashier attached to the Woodlands Hospital Susan Daniels and a man, who she allegedly falsely claimed had robbed her of GY$1.4 million belonging to the health institution, were arraigned on a charge of simple larceny.

The cashier, 33-year year old Susan Daniels, and 32- year old Anif Peters, denied the joint charge after it was read to them by City Magistrate, Judy Latchman.

the charge alleges that the Canal Number One and East LaPenitence resident on August 31 stole GY$1.4 million dollars from Woodlands Hospital, property of the hospital.

Daniels was also charged with  giving false information to police at Brickdam Police Station on September 1,  alleging that she was robbed knowing such information was false after an investigation was carried out.

To that charge Daniels pleaded her innocence by denying the charge.

The court heard from Police Prosecutor Inspector Gordon Mansfield that on the day in question, Daniels was responsible for taking the daily sales to the respective holding area but did not do that.

Afterwards, a report was made to the Brickdam Police station and an investigation was carried only to find out that found that the information given was allegedly false.

Peters was arrested due to the fact that Daniels had reported he was the person that had robbed her of the money.

Magistrate Latchman granted bail to Anif Peters in the sum of $100,000 while Susan Daniels was granted $200,000 bail.

Both defendants were ordered to return to court on December 4

Sagga’s murder…Cops remanded

Lawyers seek protective custody as β€˜Best Cop’, colleague enters jail

With a hostile crowd outside the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, two cops accused of ordering the murder of a prominent businessman, were yesterday refused bail after being charged with murder.
Corporal Derwin Eastman who was once Best Cop for β€˜A’ Division and his colleague, Constable Jemison Williams, who are both attached to the Brickdam Police Station, arrived at the Court shortly after 14:00 hrs yesterday and were remanded to prison for the murder of Godfrey Scipio known as β€œSagga”.
The men both shackled and handcuffed were sent through the prisoners’ chute and into Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman’s courtroom.
While seated in the dock, relatives of Eastman were seen interacting and touching his head, causing Assistant Superintendent of Police, Telford to tell the orderly to let them desist from touching and speaking with him.
A relative of Eastman was heard crying during the court proceedings and had to be escorted out of the courtroom by another relative.
The men were not required to plead to the charge which read that both of them on October 12, at David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, murdered Godfrey Scipio known as β€œSagga”.
Corporal Eastman was represented by Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes. The lawyer told the court that he is concerned about the safety of his client since he has over the years successfully investigated numerous crimes. His life has been threatened since the matter became public, Hughes said.
The lawyer added that while his client was being escorted into the court compound an identifiable member of the public, told his client, β€œYour days are number and persons are awaiting your arrival in prison. Remember you try to shoot me.”
Hughes added that the same individual that said those words to his client was previously charged and remanded to prison and it was his client that did the investigation.
Williams was represented by Attorney-at-Law Dexter Todd. Todd asked the court for the relative authorities to take the necessary steps in insuring that the men are protected while in prison.

Derwin Eastman’s relative in the court yard.

He added that his client’s life is in jeopardy since he has conducted a series of investigations.
After the defence attorneys’ raised concerns about their client’s safety, Magistrate Latchman asked ASP, Steven Telford to address the issue of safety.
In turn, Telford told the court based on the nature of the charge he would have to speak with the persons in charge of the prisons and he would have to further the information to his superiors.
The prosecutor added that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has advised that there be further investigation in the murder.
Both men were remanded to prison until December 5 when they will make their next court appearance before the Chief Magistrate for assignment.
While Eastman was being placed into the lock-ups he shouted three names. People identified those three as policemen.
Scipio, 58, was shot dead shortly after leaving a Kitty hotel. He was also robbed of a gold chain.
Aubrey Bobb, 26, of Kitty, was subsequently charged for his murder and remanded to prison.
Eastman recently started making headlines few weeks ago when Kaieteur News was informed that Eastman would plot with criminals to carry out robberies and would later use his radio to misdirect his colleagues from the getaway. He has been linked to a number of other killings and robberies.
Reports indicated that the policeman would befriend ex-cons he would have arrested and once a friendship is formulated, he would approach them with β€œjobs.”
β€œHe gives them jobs for a salary; he would tell them that once they do the job, then they safe for life.”
In the Republic Bank Limited botched robbery, the Corporal was supposed to use his handset to mislead ranks but his plans backfired when a security firm that was close-by responded promptly after the alarm went off.
October 12, lastβ€”Eastman reportedly met with the hitman at William and Queen Streets, Kitty. Constable Williams was driving Eastman’s car.
Eastman allegedly informed Bobb that the victim will be at the Kitty hotel shortly and handed him the gun. He (Eastman) also told Bobb that when he completed the job, he will receive a salary.
