Culture Minister congratulates Ms India Worldwide – urges her to aid in raising pageants’ quality
Georgetown, GINA, March 23, 2012
Minister of Culture Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, today met with Miss India Worldwide, Alana Seebarran, at the Minister’s main Street office.
Ms. Seebarran represented Guyana on February 25 at the 23rd Edition of the Miss India Worldwide 2012 held in Suriname where she outshone 34 other contestants to take the crown.
Minister Anthony congratulated Miss Seebarran for being the first Guyanese to win the Miss India Worldwide pageant and urged her to encourage other young persons who are perusing pageantry, that they too can also do it.

“There are normally a lot of pageants in Guyana, but the value of pageantry has been devalued,” Minister Anthony said. He added that while every body is promoting a pageant, when the quality is seen it is diluted and becomes “just another pageant”.
He stated that Guyana has had challenges in the past, in terms of pageantry, and Ms Seebarran now has an opportunity to lift the quality of such and to inspire young girls.

The queen stated that she was overwhelmed and pleased that she can make Guyana proud. She hopes that this would not only be “a onetime event”.
Seebarran will be doing a lot of travelling, but promised that she will work with youth organisations and schools to host programmes to motivate young people.
