Czech Ambassador stresses Czech Republic is not Chechnya

By Katerina Nikolas, Apr 20, 2013 at 6:11AM EST Apr 20, 2013 - 11 hours ago in World, Source

A sudden interest in the Chechen Republic, coupled with geographical ineptness, has resulted in confusion between the Czech Republic and Chechyna on social media sites.

As the two distinct locations became confused on social media sites the Czech Ambassador felt the need to impart a geography lesson. Ambassador Petr Gandalovič released the following statement: "As many I was deeply shocked by the tragedy that occurred in Boston earlier this month. It was a stark reminder of the fact that any of us could be a victim of senseless violence anywhere at any moment.

As more information on the origin of the alleged perpetrators is coming to light, I am concerned to note in the social media a most unfortunate misunderstanding in this respect.

The Czech Republic and Chechnya are two very different entities - the Czech Republic is a Central European country; Chechnya is a part of the Russian Federation."

RFERL reported that a Czech media site noted "Chechnya is a suburb of Czechoslovakia" appeared on the website of the "New York Post." According to Foreign Policy the Czech Republic was not the only nation to feel affronted over media coverage of the events in Boston.

The Yemeni Embassy also felt the need to issue this statement: "The Embassy of Yemen was concerned and appalled this evening when MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews indirectly branded the people of Yemen as terrorists. This was an unfair comment, which the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Washington, D.C. strongly condemns."

Meanwhile Policymic reported Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov posted this message on Instagram: "Any attempt to draw a connection between Chechnya and Tsarnaevs — if they are guilty — is futile."

You might be surprised to know that there continue to be mix-up with countries' name.

Even before Guyana became independent, the name is mistaken with places like Guinea, Ghana, Papua New Guinea.

Obama knows geography and history

Obama travel the world unlike the bigoted white presidents. George Bush one of the most uneducated ones couldn't tell apart  Africa from South America or from Asia

He used to mix up Bolivia with Libya, so he would spell it Bolibya. He would pronounce Australia and Austria in identical way. He used to believe that North Korea was a country between Iraq and Iran. I mean, whiter than George Bush is not hard to find.

Please don't insult the great George Bush.  Obama can never walk in his shoe, he is merely a talk-man.

That man Bush was great, he is dearly missed.  He took the fight to the terrorists, now under Obama, terrorism is back on the streets of the USA.

You are hilarious. "W" took the fight to the terrorist, like you're taking the fight to Lucas.

Obama had to show him how to fight the terrorist, after 1 wrong war, thousands of American soldiers dead and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians after "W" handed them a civil war as a gift in 2003, and not to mention the $1 trillion of US debt.

Bush may not be a mad man, but he is deeply flawed - and I'm not talking of the silly stuff you read and hear about him. It's the connections to corporate villains like Blackwater; it is acquiescence to to the neo-cons; it's all the swiftboat nastiness to John Kerry in 2004.

Bush took the fight to the terrorist............ yeah like Don Quixote leading the fight to the windmill

I agree that Iraq was a mis-step in a fast moving world.  Obama making mis-steps in a slower moving world.  Hey, on the neo-cons, Condalezza Rice and Colin Powel were integral parts of this mis-step, now is in on-board with Liberal Obama.  Is he a Neo-con, Liberal or the "Joker" in the pack?

In this instance, the controls did work but the FBI fumbled by not taking a 2nd look after he returned from Russia.  Clearly it was not "all-clear" for DHS as they delayed his citizenship application.  The security apparatus tend to keep a closer eye on ME and Pakis Muslims.  I think the USG has to establish an electronic signature directory and track people's activities over time.  Too much seem to have slipped through on this for nothing to change.
