Dem boys seh Oil coming and Guyana going–nowhere

Dec 09, 2018 Dem Boys Seh, Features / Columnists, News, Kaieteur News, https://www.kaieteurnewsonline...uyana-going-nowhere/

It is better to fail doing de right thing than to succeed doing de wrong thing.

Dem boys had a neighbor once who had nine kids, seven boys and two girls.

De two girls were de only people working to feed de house. All seven of de boys always in trouble. When dem not in trouble, dem smoking weed and watching TV all day.

Make a mistake and leave li’l cash in yuh vanity draw, it gone. When dem get home in de afternoon, there is little or no food fuh dem. And dey are de breadwinners.

When de two girls complain, de parents, both mudda and fadda on de boys side.

It became so overbearing dat de two girls walk out and start a life by demself.

Not long after, both parents on de road begging, and de rest of dem thieving.

Dis happens when yuh don’t tek care of de goose dat lays de egg.

Guyana finds itself in dat same boat today. Imagine de army get de same amount of money like de whole police force. Both ah dem get US$65 million.

De police got to get vehicles, pay overtime, and maintain all dem police station across de country. Dem have to travel to all dem gold and timber areas to maintain law and order.

Dem boys want to know what de army gon do with all dat money except buy beef, eggs, chickens, lamb, pork, you name it. All dem boys see dem does do when de day come is cook, eat, play domino and sleep all day.

Dem even buying cassava pone and cheese cake.

And if you shaking your head with dat, hear dis…Exxon seh by de last quarter of next year, dem ready to start bring up oil and Guyana ain’t even got a ballahoo fuh sail outside deh.

Guyana yet to put systems in place to protect dat two pint oil de country expect from Exxon, daily.

Local content policy, strong taxation laws, national oil spill response plans; all dese things needed.

Govt agencies still weak as a 90-year-old. It don’t have no petroleum commission in place. And most of all, Guyana still to verify de pre contract cost.

Dis is like a girl about to get her baby but she have no provision in place—no baby clothes, no pampers, no milk, no nightie, no towel, no nutten to go hospital.

De girl couldn’t get dese things because she didn’t spend de money wisely.

De gov’t doing de same thing. Imagine it give de Energy Dept a few pennies to protect a $4 billion project. Is de Energy Dept wha got to mek sure all de systems in place to protect de two pint oil Guyana will be getting daily.

Talk half and de coalition must stop being penny wise and pound foolish.
