Residents of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara are peeved at the state of several roads in the community.
Large holes have transformed the streets into pools.
Kaieteur News walked through First to Sixth Streets, Cummings Lodge and spoke to residents who are pleading with the relevant authorities to repair the roads.
One woman, who is renting an apartment in the area said, βI moved in this village about one year now and havenβt seen any repairs done to these road. When I first moved in I noticed that crushed concrete blocks were used to fill up some of these holes, but these have worn away.β
Another resident explained that many times taxi drivers have refused to take her into Third Street, where she resides.
βThe other night I took a taxi from Giftland Mall to here and when the taxi driver saw the road he said he was not going in there. So I disembarked the vehicle and walked in.β
Richard Persaud, who attends the University of Guyana, explained that the roads have been in a deplorable state for a number of years. He said that residents have carried out self-help work to assist with patching some of the holes in the roadway. Persaud shared that the potholes are so deep that it is difficult to navigate through them.
βWe need help. For years we have been begging for these roads to be fixed. People would use cement mixture to alleviate the situation but it is not lasting. It would last for a couple weeks and then break up.β
According to residents, Cummings Lodge has become a very populated village over the years and emphasis should be placed on improving infrastructure.
Some thing is seriously wrong. Under the PPP it was the problem. Now under the PNC it is the same problem.
I guess Guyanese workers have no pride in the quality of work they do.
Welcome to the dark days of the PNC. During PNC version 1 broken roads were one of the hallmarks of their administration, now it looks like the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Who are the Village Councillors and what are they doing about it?
It is the responsibility of the PNC. At least this was what you slop can boys claimed during ppp time. You didn't even blame Green. You went directly to Ramoutar to blame. Now you jackasses ketch sense and looking for the right people. I am now sure how you became presidential advisor and don't know shyte about Guyana.

Let the gov't. send a team of Guyanese to a foreign country to learn how to build roads that don't wash away and break easily.

Remember Harry Ram Bhola versus the PPP's demolition of the Double Day Hotel's Kissing Bridge at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo?

I don't think it's a matter of knowing what to do. I remember when houses were moved in the Plaisance area to widen the East Coast Road. Around that same time the roads in Better Hope North were redone. Then, they took their time and did it properly. Those roads lasted though yearly flooding for quite a few years. Now, I'm not sure if it's the material used, the workers just not caring or if it's done by private contractors whether they're trying to maximize profits in whatever way they can. Then there are the officials who don't seem give a damn.

The residents are the ones responsible for damaging the roads. Lok at the picture there is a container sitting on the parpet. those roads were never made for that kind of weight.
