Diasporas groups plan victory parade and rally for coalition in Brooklyn

A grand victory parade and rally in honour of the Coalition Government in Guyana, is set to take place on Sunday 14th June 2015 from 11:00 am in Brooklyn, New York.

According to the organizers, the New York City Police Department have already approved the route of the march which begins at Bedford and Church Avenues, and will proceed East  along Church Avenue to Schenectady Avenue where the grand rally will be held.

The March and Rally is being organized by a group of Guyanese who came together after requests from fellow citizens in the Diaspora to have their share of showing how much they are appreciative of the change in Government, and the achievement of 49 years of Independence.

Chairperson of the group, Ms. Sharif Fraser said she had no choice in bringing the group together after business woman, Ms. Doris Rodney of the Hills Restaurant broached the idea after watching the festivities that were streamed live from Guyana. She indicated that she immediately contacted a number of prominent individuals including members of the North American Region (NAR) of the PNCR, and the Alliance For Change (AFC).

Political activist, Rickford Burke and Ervin Washington are also part of the organizing committee. The logistics and stage preparations are being conducted by Bobby Vieira, who was asked to join the team and share his expertise. He will also be arranging for live streaming of the event.

The march which begins at 11:00 am will be followed by a rally which begins at the end of the parade. The two part program is set to feature speeches and remarks by a number of Federal, State and Local Politicians including US Congress Woman, Yvette Clarke and New York City Mayor, Bill De Blasio among others.

The second phase will see Guyanese performers including Lisa Punch, Jenny Ferreira and Anthony Allene.  The expected large gathering of Guyanese (numbered in the thousands), and decked in their Green and Yellow shirts and caps are due to travel from as far as Connecticut, Washington D.C., Atlanta Georgia, Toronto Canada and even Guyana.

The committee has also extended a special invitation to Minister of State in the Ministry of the Presidency, Hon. Joseph Harmon and other Senior Government functionaries to grace the event with their presence, as well as offer remarks in relation to the new Government and its expectations.

The committee has also broached the idea of a similar reduced airfare with Fly Jamaica, for supporters from Guyana who have already signalled their interest to join in the North American celebrations, as they provided for persons who travelled from New York for the Independence Anniversary Celebrations in Guyana.

On this I agree with you.  One cannot make it an Afro Guyanese affair and then claim "national unity".

It matters not that over 95% of the Indians and over 65% of the Amerindians voted PPP.  The fact is that the goal of the coalition is to ensure that 2015 will be the last election where the bulk of the votes will come from ethnic fear.

Diversity must not only be said, but it must be done, and be seen to be done.  If only Afros are speaking, and if only Afro Guyanese culture and vibes are included, then it isn't inclusive.

If the goal of the coalition is to ensure that issues, integrity, and competency and not race dominates the 2020 election then the coalition must ensure that it appears inclusive.  And that all, even those who support the PPP, will feel welcome.

THIS is why the point needs to be repeatedly made that 49.7% of the population voted AGAINST the coalition, so that the notion that this some how reflects the thinking of the Guyanese population is no more right then when 51.2% voted against the PPP in 2011.

Folks need to remember that.

I have said this many times.  You don't see it because I discuss Indian racism and that the PPP is as racist as the Burnham regime is.

Now are you FINALLY admitting that under the PPP there was a belief system of "ahbe pan tap, black man time DONE"?  Or are you still portraying the Indian as Guyana's only victim of our racial politics?

It's not balanced and demonizes everything the former Govt did.

When someone cannot give credit where credit is due, that is unfair.

Too bad Jay is angry that the AFC demonizes what the PPP did.

Is the AFC racist now?  Note that it came from them, and Nigel called the PPP institutional racists.

Richmond Hill can come to Brooklyn, provided that the event is made to look inclusive, and not like an Afro Guyanese celebration.

Last night's AFC, Queens group, put on a gathering at Spice Restaurant on Atlantic and 100 St in Richmond Hill that was well attended (Chief you baxide didn't make it). The theme was for us in the Diaspora to view critically the progress of this government and call it out on failings in pursuit of its goals. Cleanup, transparency and accountability were emphasized. A shoutout to Churchill who was there.
