Digicel Schools Football Championship … Canje Sec, BEI, BSoE and Rosignol Sec all win

Jun 21, 2017 Sports, http://www.kaieteurnewsonline....osignol-sec-all-win/

Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) and Canje Secondary were among the teams recording victories when play in this year’s Digicel Schools Football Championship resumed on Sunday, at the Burnham Park ground in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Also registering wins on the same day were Berbice School of Excellence (BSoE) and Rosignol Secondary in their engagements, at the Paradise ground, West Coast Berbice.
Over at Burnham Park, Berbice Educational Institute led by a 63rd minute strike from Kelly Amsterdam squeezed past Berbice High 1-0.
In the other fixture, Canje Secondary cruised to a comfortable 5-1 triumph over New Amsterdam Secondary with Tyrese Williams netting a brace in the 29th and 63rd minutes, while Alade Grant, Elond White and Akeem Moses-Bovell, all contributed a goal apiece in the 40th, 66th and 69th minutes respectively.
For New Amsterdam Secondary, an own in the 40th minute was responsible for their account.
At the Paradise ground, Berbice School of Excellence scraped past Fort Wellington Secondary 2-1 despite playing with only seven players.
Tarone Pompey opened Berbice School of Excellence’s account when he netted in the 13th minute, before Anthony Alexander’s 32nd minute strike gave them a 2-0 advantage which they took to the break.
Ziekel Johnson pulled one back for Fort Wellington in the 55th minute, but robust defending by their opponents put paid to their ambitions of drawing level and when the final whistle sounded Berbice School of Excellence had preserved their slim lead to secure a win.
In the other game, Rosignol Secondary romped to a comfortable 4-1 victory over No. 8 Secondary.
Nial Reynolds booted in a pair of goals in the 32nd and 61st minutes and he received support from Delrico Griffith and Lindon Singh who added solitary strikes in the 19th and 58th minutes respectively.
For No. 8 Secondary, Joshua Charles made the lone response in the 36th minute.
The championship, which has 120 schools participating from all 10 Regions, is scheduled to conclude on July 31st.
The winning school will collect $1,000,000 which is to go towards a project of their choice along with the championship trophy.
Second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $700,000, $400,000 and $350,000 respectively and this too is for a project of the schools choice.
Chase Academic Foundation is the defending champion.
