DJ and vendor get bail on ganja trafficking charge
Two men who police say were found with 169 grammes of cannabis were charged at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.
Leon Arthur, an 18-year-old DJ, and Sherwin Davis, a 28-year-old vendor, were brought to the courtroom of acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus yesterday when a possession of narcotics for trafficking charge was read to them.
It is alleged that on January 6th, 2020, at William and Leopold streets, Georgetown, they had 169 grammes of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Both accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and were each granted bail. Arthur was released on $50,000 bail, due to his young age, while Davis was granted $100,000 bail. Bail was granted with the condition that both men report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday until the completion of their trial.
Police prosecutor Quinn Harris told the court that the drugs had been found at a hotel. He said that the police had been acting on information when they raided the hotel room where the cannabis was found in a black plastic bag. He said that the two had been sitting on a bed with the bulky bag in between them.
However, Arthur told the court that he had been sleeping and that the bag was found under the bed in a woman’s bag. Davis also said that the bag was a woman’s bag and that the room is accessible to anyone, not just himself and Arthur.
The matter was adjourned until February 10th.
