People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C ) Member of Parliament, Nigel Dharamlall, might just be in the clear following the advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) which states that no charge is laid against him with regards to his alleged threatening behaviour towards a staff attached to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Office in Guyana.
General Secretary of the PPP, Clement Rohee, this morning told INews that Dharamlall had appeared before the Executive Committee of the Party where he related his version of what had transpired between himself and the employee of the IDB.

According to Rohee, the senior members of the PPP also took into consideration what Dharamlall’s lawyer, Glen Hanoman, had to “say about the matter”.

The Party’s General Secretary noted that now that members of the PPP have read in the media that charges will not be pressed against their MP this will also be taken into account when the Executive Committee meets again.

It is then that the matter at hand will be assessed on the way forward.

Over two weeks ago the case file was sent to the DPP’s Chambers and has now been returned to the Guyana Police Force (GPF). In light of the two parties settling the matter, the DPP recommended that no charge be instituted against the MP.

It was earlier alleged that Dharamlall threatened the IDB employee after he saw the man conversing with his (Dharamlall’s) ex-wife.(Kristen Macklingam)
