Persaud and Luzuriaga are part of a group of researchers working to explore and document possible pediatric HIV cure cases. The group was funded by a grant from amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, and the National Institutes of Health.

The discovery if true is like all such advances in science serendipitous. The child was introduced early to anti HIV drugs, some two days post natal. The mother, and HIV infected patient disappeared off the grid and did not give the child the due drug protocol as prescribed by the doctors. The social welfare was able to locate her two years later and discovered the child was healthy. If indeed the child could be verified as having HIV and if she is functionally cure today then the brake through is that her early introduction to HIV drugs, ( usually given later) may have helped. We are still waiting those findings.

This is truly great stuff. If the cure is verified in her profession, I'd say Dr Persaud and team would have a decent shot at the Nobel in Physiology. 

If all the facts check out, then kudos to her. God bless her soul.

American university education is still the envy of the world. The problem is at the high schools. Imagine a drunk and poke cuttahs eating role model like you will now go and sing chowtal at the mandirs in R/Hill. The high school kids have their henny and poke cuttahs exemplar to look up to.

I think it is too early to say that the baby was completely cured.  They found HIV DNA fragments in the baby. I think there may be a possibility that the virus is hiding in certain parts of the baby and was not found.  They should have waited longer before announcing these findings. With HIV it takes just a few viruses hiding in the body to get bucket loads of the virus in a few months.
