RIP
Very sad new. I remember my grandfather mentioning his name as an outstanding Guyanese.
That is the man who told Cheddie not to sign any document for the London Colonial Office until he reviewed it. Instead, CBJ ignored him and signed in Ramsahoye's absence. And we got Proportional Representation.
The decline of the great Guianese future among the world of nations.

If you never heard of such a historic figure in Guyana you should delete your handle here on GNI. Not up to par to make political commentary here. You are in a different league.

Let's assume VishMahabir is a young man,how will he hear about Fenton ? does that bar him from posting here ? you were running around clueless not knowing anything about him either.
Antigua mourning for Dr Ramsahoye:
I met Dr.Ramsahoye in March 1970. I was walking in Croal Street and he was standing at the entrance to his law office, Harcourt Hall. I walked up to him and introduced myself as a "PYO comrade." We chatted for about ten minutes. I last saw him in September 1984 at Piarco Airport. We were both intransit. He was with company and so was I.

Every educated Guyanese person knows about Fenton Ramsahoye. His name is etched in Guyana's history from being the first native AG to his role in achieving independence in 1966. My father knew him well and told us many stories about his brilliance and bravery. When I was growing up he was one person I said I would like to meet. Unfortunately, I never met him.
If I am not mistaken he is the father of famous Guyanese neurologist Walter Ramsahoye.

Well you didn't put in the effort.
A great man. RIP.

Take your time, read about Dr. Fenton Ramsahoye's activities to gather what he has done in Guyana and abroad.
Sir Gilly I will like you to clear this up for me. Were Fenton Ramsahoye and his brother classmates of Burnham at Queens College? I remember reading a book in mid-1990's when the writer stated that Burnham would ride his bike over to their home in the evening to find out how the brother was doing in law classes in the UK (when he worked at Queens College) after he finished school at Queens College and the mother would make sure he had something to eat. The writer in the book was disturbed about how Burnham became a dictator on a horse from a humble person as a student. I cannot remember who the writer was but I am thinking that it was Fenton Ramsahoye

He was Walter's elder brother. There was another brother , Sam an engineer .
I think it was Walter that wrote the book. I think Fenton was in the same class as Burnham. Burnham use to come by their house on his bicycle in the evening to find out how Fenton was doing in his studies in London.

He had already been living overseas. Geography separated us.
Another brother was Lyttleton Ramsahoye who was on the PNC list of candidates either in 1973 or 1980.

I think 1973. But Fenton had remained with the PPP in his career until he left Guyana.
