Dr Insanally appointed Guyana’s Permanent Representative to OAS

Dr Riyad Insanally is Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS).
He presented his Letters of Credence on September 30 to OAS Secretary General Luis Almargo at the OAS Headquarters in Washington DC, USA.
The career diplomat reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment “to upholding the principles established by the OAS Charter fully cognisant of the virtuous circle we’re all seeking to close – that of democracy, human rights, multi-dimensional security and integral development.”
Dr Insanally was appointed as the Permanent Representative to the OAS earlier this year. He previously served as the OAS Representative in Trinidad and Tobago and was also an adviser to the previous OAS Assistant Secretary General.

Ambassador Insanally began his diplomatic career in 1990 at the Foreign Affairs Ministry as a Senior Foreign Officer. Dr Insanally also served as Senior Trade Adviser to the Guyana High Commissioner in the United Kingdom, and as consultant at Caricom and other international agencies. The Guyanese scholar is the holder of a PhD in languages from Harvard University.
SG Almargo told Dr Insanally that his experience made him invaluable to the OAS. “You’re very well prepared for this post and your help will be extremely invaluable,” Almargo said at the simple presentation ceremony.
