Breaking Dr Irfaan Ali sworn in as President

Dr Irfaan Ali of the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) has been sworn-in as Guyana’s 9th Executive President, bringing an end to a record-breaking prolonged electoral process that was driven by the incumbent APNU/AFC regime refusing to bow to the will of the people as expressed through their ballots.
He was sworn-in by Chancellor of the Judiciary Yonette Cummings-Edwards following the declaration by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

The PPP/C won the presidency with a commanding 233,336 votes, a remarkable lead of 15,416 over its nearest political rival, the A Partnership for National Unity/Alliance For Change (APNU/AFC) – which has been refusing to accept defeat, and which at the last hour, attempted to file an injunction in the courts to prevent the declaration by Chairman of GECOM Justice (rtd) Claudette Singh.

See full joint statement from the ABCE Heads of Mission on the 2 March General and Regional Elections Declaration:

The Ambassador of the United States of America, H.E. Sarah-Ann Lynch, the British High Commissioner, H.E. Greg Quinn, the Canadian High Commissioner, H.E. Lilian Chatterjee, and the Ambassador of the European Union, H.E. Fernando Ponz-Canto, congratulate the people of Guyana and the Guyana Elections Commission for bringing to a peaceful and orderly conclusion the 2020 elections.

We congratulate the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) on its electoral success and Mohamed Irfaan Ali on his swearing in as President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. We thank President David Granger for accepting the results as befits the dignity of his office. We thank all the political parties, technical advisors and all observers – international and domestic – who participated in the electoral process. We thank GECOM Chairwoman Claudette Singh for having the courage of her convictions to uphold Guyana’s Constitution.

We look forward to working with President Ali and his government as it confronts many immediate challenges, including the need to address the social and economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and the development needs of Guyana’s people. We also look forward to seeing this government at its outset reach across political divisions to unite Guyanese of all ethnicities, races, and regions, around meaningful progress on constitutional reform and reconciliation.

As friends of Guyana, we look forward to working with all to continue to support Guyana’s development for the benefit of all its people.

People must learn to think about the constituents who are living in Guyana and voted. These are the people that have all the saying. After tomorrow, I urge my fellow Guyanese to focus their attention on what's ahead of us.

The people of Guyana will focus , the PPP didn't win the elections fairly. Have you ever seen a CEO report with wording "not the will of the people"

Lowenfield never followed his employer's instructions- GECOM. he went rogue, he had five strikes and still held onto his job. He was part and parcel of Mingo committing fraud. Anyway ,it is not over with the corrupt gang, they will be brought to justice.

They entire world must be wrong ,they saw the PPP won by a large margin. To the PNC, it is unimaginable.
