Three United States (US) Congressional representatives who are in Guyana, met with Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo Wednesday where they emphasized the importance of free, fair, credible and peaceful elections.
The News Room understands that Congressmen Gregory Meeks, Albio Sires along with Congresswoman Yvette Clarke will be meeting with other political leaders who are contesting the much anticipated March 2 general and regional elections.
Following the high-level meeting at his Church Street, Georgetown office, Jagdeo told some members of the media that he is âextremely pleasedâ that the âpowerful delegationâ is in Guyana ahead of the polls.
âThey emphasized to us in the meeting one major issue and that is that the United States of America will support free, fair, credible elections; they want peaceful elections in Guyana and they hope that all the parties accept the results once the elections are over with so that we can move forward as a country,â the Opposition Leader said.
According to Jagdeo, he reiterated the Peopleâs Progressive Partyâs (PPP) commitment to credible elections but also used the opportunity to point out what he described as âunhealthy thingsâ that could go against a credible outcome of the elections.
âI donât think they came here to give any party something to hang on to. I think their presence here is reassuring to our country and to the people of our country because theyâre non-partisan, they made that clear and I donât think they came here to confer and advantage one side or the other.
âI think their presence in Guyana is very reassuring and particularly their statement about free, fair, peaceful elections,â Jagdeo said.
The US delegation was accompanied to the meeting by U.S Ambassador to Guyana, Sara-Ann Lynch.
Carter Center already there watching the PNC. The US is covering the PPPâs backs. Lets go! ðŽðū

Looks like Volda's comments sparked concerns in Washington. Uncle Sam is keeping a close eye. Looks like PNC efforts to rig are being monitored and rightfully so given their past history of rigging and post election violence.
Kudos to Ambassador Sara-Ann Lynch.
