Dreadful services and conditions at N/A Hospital

August 2, 2014 | By | Filed Under Letters

DEAR EDITOR, I am thankful for the opportunity to vent my frustration about the slothfulness in the services offered by the New Amsterdam Hospital. Recently I visited the hospital while accompanying my younger brother to receive treatment for a persistent fever and cough. To my dismay, there was one nurse manning the entire Accident and Emergency Unit – please note that this nurse had to register, administer injections, sponge bath, check temperature, etc. to patients. Also, the doctors present were busy having lengthy conversations by themselves with patients in front of them crying out for pain. At the said time, there was only one porter working along with one wheelchair. The washroom facilities are, I should say, out of order. This has caused me to ask these questions: where is the money budgeted under the line item-maintenance of infrastructure? Is there at any time a noticeable supervising officer at the hospital on the weekends? Where are all the nurses that have been trained using taxpayers’ money? Is the Hospital receiving enough disinfectants and cleaning agents to make it a citizen/patient-friendly environment? Where are all the Cuban-trained doctors? I am kindly asking the relevant authorities to look into this matter. I hope that the next time I visit the New Amsterdam Hospital there will be an improvement in the services offered as well as the sanitary conditions. Concerned Citizen

If this article is accurate, then the Minister of health should have his bukta pulled down.

There are two of them. Only in Guyana, this can happen. Berbicians are fed up with the PPP/C.
