41-year-old Vidur Anuage and his 19-year-old son who was killed in January

The driver who struck down a labourer on the Adventure public road, Essequibo Coast on Monday night and left him to die, is in Police custody.

Police said the driver of motorcar PXX 7706 reported to Suddie Police Station at about 05:30hrs on Tuesday and is in custody assisting with the investigation.

At around 20:40hrs on Monday, Vidur Anauge of Onderneeming Sand Pitt Essequibo Coast was riding his bicycle in a northern direction on the western side of the road when he was struck down by the car that was proceeding in the same direction.

Police said the cyclist was flung some distance away to the western parapet where he sustained injuries to his body.

The driver escaped the scene while Anauge was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The car was set on fire by residents at the scene and was completely destroyed.

The News Room had reported that Anauge’s 19-year-old son was also killed in an accident on the Essequibo Coast public road in January of this year.
