Balwant Persaud - immigration lawyer & field negroe - last of a dying breed in Guyana
Statement by Balwant Persaud
The AFC had held a public meeting on October 16, 2011 at No. 11 Village, West Coast Berbice, Guyana. This meeting was going good and peaceful with about four hundred persons in attendance, all well behaved and very responsive to the speakers.
Suddenly, when Balwant Persaud was on the stage speaking a group of PPP thugs led by a PPP lawyer who was drunk, named Perry Gossai began disrupting the meeting with violent threats. Perry Gossai had about seven PPP thugs and they all appeared to consume alcohol as their breath was smelling of alcohol and Gossai was encouraging them to do violent acts.
However, the police approached them and they allowed the speakers to continue to speak.
This man Perry Gossai who is a lawyer and big time supporter of the PPP in Berbice has breached the GEOCOM Code of Conduct, the Bar Association Ethics and all human decency and should be disciplined. How can the Bar Association allow one of its members to behave in a derogatory manner that brings the association into disrepute? Are there political thugs in the Bar
Association? Isnβt there a Professional Code of Conduct in the Bar Association for its members?
Also, PPP activists on the East Coast and West Berbice are pulling down AFC posters. These acts are derailing the process of free and fair elections.
Also derailing the process of free and fair elections are the abuse of the state owned radio station, state owned TV NCN and private TV stations that are affiliated with the PPP.
The opposition parties are not getting fair access to the state owned media and this is unfair and discriminatory, therefore the elections cannot be termed as free and fair.
