Even as Dynamic Airways continues to investigate the misplacement of the passport of a United States-based Berbice woman, who has been stranded here since last Saturday, it yesterday promised to return her and family to their home free of charge.

“We are asking CJIA to assist us because the whole incident is recorded and those cameras must pick up what exactly happened… But we will ensure that Dynamic takes them back for free…,” local representative for Dynamic Airlines Gerry Gouveia told Stabroek News yesterday.

The woman, Lilawattie Persaud, who returned to Guyana from the United States for the Jubilee celebrations, was stranded last Saturday on her way out of the country, when her passport was misplaced after she handed it over to two check-in agents at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri.

“From one table to the next table, the girl and boy that was there, they take the passports from my hand to their counter, then they take the passport and bring it to the next counter while the girl check the foodstuff I was carrying,” she had related.

“From their hand, it never come back in my hand,” Persaud said.

The woman was travelling with her husband and 16-year-old son and had handed in the family’s documents together but only two were returned. Persaud’s husband was then told to go ahead and pay the departure tax for himself and the teen, while she was told that her passport was missing. Her husband and son refused to board the plane without her.

Yesterday, she explained that she has since made the necessary police reports and applied to the US Embassy for new travel documents. She will collect them today and will also visit Dynamic’s office to make new travel plans.

A housekeeper at a hotel in New York, Persaud said she was worried about the security of her job as this is currently high season and her work demand was much. She hopes that her employers are understanding of her plight and will continue her employ.

She thanked Dynamic for the gesture of returning her family home safely and says she is relieved that the ordeal is behind her.

“I was so worried. I mean I have my job and my husband job and then my son was to start a course and we put if off and signed he up for when we returned, now this. I don’t know what will happen to he but my husband explain to he job and they were very understanding,” Persaud said.

“It near over and I can’t wait to go home,” she added.

It is sad that Jerry and his team who misplaced this woman's passport and is now trying to milk publicity on this misadventure.

The woman must secure a letter of apology from Jerry's Handling Company and also another letter of apology from Dynamic as the airline aught to have its rep present at the check-in station to handle situation like this/

She and her family need to contact a lawyer and there is too much liability for just a free one way ticket
