And if gold prices tumble. What then? If Maduro decides that he cannot continue Chavez' generosity and cuts his price for Guyana rice, what then?

You have been making these predictions for years. You see Caribj, half of success is luck, the other is hard work. You have to work hard and be ready for when lady luck smiles at you. If you just want to sit and complain, lady luck passes you by.

Rice farmers from the Essequibo Coast and West Demerara on Wednesday took their plight of low paddy prices being paid by millers in front of Parliament Building where consideration of the 2013 National Budget was winding down. They also delivered a petition of more than 1,000 signatures to Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy and delivered copies to Opposition Leader, David Granger and Vice Chairman of the Alliance For Change (AFC) Moses Nagamootoo |
The solution is not tampering with the market forces. Clearly, milling is in short supply as such they control prices. The Gov't has to ensure the framework is there to facilitate investment in milling and competition for the paddy. The Govt should not get directly or overtly involved in the market place.
