With all due respects, you do not seem to understand how agriculture impact the lives of Guyanese. If sugar and rice goes, PNC will be kicked out of office by massive uprising and possibly bloodshed.

Do you not see how idiotic you are.  Efficient well run industries make profits.  INEFFICIENT ones need gov't bailouts.

You just confirmed that rice and sugar aren't efficient, and this happened UNDER the PPP.

PNC seem to underestimate the impact of the rapid decline of the rice industry under their watch. This will come back to haunt them.

Granger unintentionally appointed some clueless people at the top. It will cost them dearly from a political perspective.

Take away sugar and rice, four fifth of the country will be unemployed. Way too many other businesses depend on those two industries. Maybe they will have to expand the drug trade to survive.

Rice and Sugar are not going any where, the heavy subsidy

can be reduced by diversification in to other crops so we can

supply the Caribbean and beyond.

I agree with you that profit is a good thing.  Sugar and rice aren't profitable though.

Now explain to me why rice and sugar have been in difficulties for the past several years?  The rice farmers have been wailing for quite a while now, and we know that Guysuco has required massive bail outs by the gov't. In fact in May WHEN THE PPP WAS STILL IN CHARGE, Guysuco didn't even have the cash to meet payroll.

Pumping money into those products is not going to make a damn difference. Sugar is losing its commercial value in Europe due to the expansion of beetroot. And rice is in abundance whilst also experiencing a downturn in demand due to changes in customers eating habits.

It would be stupid of the government to waste money on bailimng out the Indo farmers at the expense of the black workers.
