Ecuador has asked Mercosur for help in the investigation of the death of former President Jaime Roldos. According to a book written by a former CIA John Perkins (Confessions of an economic hitman) the airplane crash where the former president died was provoked by the CIA. Other Latin American presidents who died in identical circumstances were Omar Torrijos of Panama, and Rafael Hoyos of Peru.
