Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works, yesterday morning visited several infrastructural projects in Region 3. Among them recently completed roads at Naamryck Backdam.

There, the Minister instructed that the contractor correct the asphaltic concrete pavement to meet the standards and technical specifications outlined in the contract, a release from the ministry said. This will be done at no additional cost to the Ministry.

β€œThis cannot be accepted the way it is. This has failed the test so this got to be used as a levelling course and now you got to get proper, quality asphalt for the entire road, and we got to finish this up before next week Wednesday. Whenever we do work in any community, one thing we have in mind is the people. The beneficiaries are the ultimate goal, their satisfaction,” Edghill stated.

Surely, there are no standards for road construction. Ali has too many  square pegs in round holes.

Roads can vary in width and the grade of materials can vary according to estimated load bearing.

The total width of a typical two-lane road, shoulder edge to shoulder edge, should be approximately 36 to 38  feet in width. Each lane is about 12 feet wide. Hence the  road shoulders are 8 feet and 6 feet wide; these can vary quite a bit in width to accommodate parking or stopping for pickup or disembarking passengers.

Heads should be rolling. Would suggest Ali starts at the top.
