This important face-to-face meeting of the Board was designed to deal with issues related to the governance of the GPE, the replenishment of funds to the organization and the approval of requests for support from various countries.

The GPE, which comprises approximately 60 developing countries, donor Governments, international organizations, private sector, and civil society/Non Governmental Organisation groups, was established in 2002.

In its current strategic plan, the partnership has five strategic objectives. Two of these objectives are a dramatic increase in the number of children learning and demonstrating mastery of basic literacy and numeracy skills by Grade Three and improving teacher effectiveness by various means are major priorities for Guyana.

By promoting collaboration in the education sector, GPE was established to provide developing countries unique expertise and guidance to achieve their education goals. As such its network of education partners constitutes a unique platform to share knowledge and achieve education results. With this crucial support it is expected that developing countries can provide sustainable and sufficient financing to education.
