Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand today presented laptop computers to the three top students of the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) at the Minister’s office Brickdam.

The NGSA was written on April 4-5 by over 17,100 students at the primary level and the top position was shared by Michael Bhopaul of Graham’s Hall Primary and Ramesh Ghir of Mae’s Under 12 with 547 marks. Minister Manickchand lauded the students for their performance, noting that they have made their parents proud. She said it would not have been easy for them as they would have made tremendous sacrifices for them to have an education.

She encouraged them to continue on the same path because at this stage of their life they are the best in Guyana.

“You get to choose whether you want to be somebody who is more interested in playing than you are in school or you will balance both and excel in both, pay attention and listen to your teacher,” she urged.

She also told the students that even as they pay attention to other matters they must stay focused on their education as she urged them to make good use of the computer, which will help them to complete their homework and assignments, and also to help others who are not fortunate to have a computer.

The students also expressed their gratitude to the minister for her kind gesture and promised to continue excelling in everything they do.
