An unexpected raid in Bartica yesterday led to the detention of eight Dominican women, who are suspected to be victims of trafficking in person.
Stabroek News was informed that up to late yesterday afternoon arrangements were being made to have the women escorted to Georgetown for questioning.
According to reports, the raid, carried out at a house in Bartica where the women were located, was led by members of the Trafficking in Person Unit at Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who teamed up with their counterparts in Bartica.
Checks of their travel documents revealed that four of the eight women have overstayed their time in Guyana.
