Alyuh, let that man go in peace!
ksazma posted:Gilly, my question was not about him being cremated but rather it is uncommon to have the funeral after the cremation.
On the same day Fidel's corpse was cremated there was a big funeral rally in Havana at the Square of the Revolution. Among the foreign guests were Moses Nagamootoo and Gail Teixeira from Guyana. Because Fidel was undoubtedly a larger-than-life figure, a final farewell rally was held in Santiago de Cuba on the eve of his entombment. The foreign press described that event as a "funeral" but the Cubans themselves called it a farewell rally.
Now, leaving Fidel aside, I know a few cases of Guyanese who died in Canada, were cremated in Canada, whose ashes were transported to Guyana where a funeral service was organized before the ashes were dumped in the river/ocean.

CHECK your facts.
Stabroek News came after Burnham died and yes they were printed in Trinidad for the first few editions. They started out S a weekly publication
I repeat. SN switched to publication in Tdad when they couldn't in Guyana, but they did attempt to do this in Guyana. This was not their initial attempt.

The world was hunting Hitler whereas Fidel is respected the world over even in the USA.
Fidel just has a better PR campaign. Most assuredly the thousands of bodies murdered by Castro's firing squads will differ with you.
The ONLY reason why some respect Castro is that he ran his mouth against the US power structure. Of course the daily suffering of the Cuban people matters not to the Castro family, who are WEALTHY!
Whats your issue with Burnham. That he is black? Because there is not one thing that he did that Castro didn't also do! Should I also add you to the Indo KKK gang, because Castro's behavior certainly merits the same reaction from you that Burnham should engender. Why the difference?
VVP posted:..Is China communist? Cubans are struggling because of the USA embargo and they understand that that's why they are content.
Why doesn't the USA allow open travel to Cuba?
1. Castro screamed about how terrible the USA is. So he should have been glad that the embargo "protected" Cuba against "evil US imperialism".
2. Every country in the world trades with Cuba, so the fact that there are restrictions on US trade is minimal. In fact the USA is one of Cuba's largest trading partners, providing a high % of the food consumed on that island.
3. Castro didn't want unfettered US influence on the island, which would have occurred had their been no embargo.
Find another excuse. To scream that the absence of "evil US imperialism" harmed Cuba is a joke, especially when one considers that Cuba, until recently, was getting virtually free oil from Venezuela.
