Finance minister offers tax relief

Finance Minister Joe Oliver says the federal government will continue to cut taxes if the Conservatives win the next election, tentatively set for October 19th.

Oliver says the government would have the financial wiggle room to do that by having to make smaller payments on the country's shrinking federal debt.

Oliver says the plunge in oil prices over the last 11 months prevented him from cutting taxes in the budget be tabled a month ago.
