Cheddi Jagan Research Centre

Cheddi Jagan Research Centre

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Former President, Donald Ramotar is far from amused over recent statements by Attorney General Basil Williams as it relates to turning Red House into a research facility for all of Guyana’s past Presidents.

Williams at a press conference on Wednesday, October 28 had dubbed the land deal under the People’s Progressive Party regime as illegal, contending that it amounts to misconduct and malfeasance of office.

The deal referred to saw the land that facilitates the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre being leased for $1000 per month for 99 years. The Attorney General claims that this is essentially a land transport and Government would be making steps to scrap the land deal.

But Ramotar in a telephone interview with iNews on Thursday, October 29, stated that if the government wants to establish research centres for other Former Presidents, it is free to do so, but not at the cost of the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre.

Former President, Donald Ramotar.

Former President, Donald Ramotar.

The former President made it explicitly clear that he was giving his own opinion stating, “If they want somewhere for Forbes Burnham and Desmond Hoyte, let them find another building. I am personally not in agreement with that.”

Defending his stance, Ramotar contended that Dr Jagan dwelled in that building hence it is the prime place to be used as a research centre for his work and life achievements.

“It is a living memorial for Dr Jagan,” Ramotar proclaimed adding “this is a place most appropriate for housing the works of Cheddi Jagan.”

He suggested that the Government look to the Castellani House or even the University of Guyana to erect a Presidential Research Centre, but not lay a finger on Red House.

“There is no shortage of places they can find,” he stated.

I agree with Ramotar.

This was the place of residence for the Jagans and its most appropriate as his research centre.

Due to the number of materials and functions representing each president, that could be housed in a building, it might be appropriate to have separate buildings for each president, with similar lease agreements.

Separate buildings  might also benefit both political parties, since they don't get along with each other.

THESE FRIGGIN BASTARDS WANT TO PLASTER THE DOGS BUNHAM AND HOYTE ON THE GUYANESE PEOPLE AT THE EXPENSE OF OUR FATHER OF THE NATION!!!  IF THIS IS ALLOWED THEN IT IS TIME FOR PARTITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guyanese have not yet matured to the point where they can act fairly. Having leaders from opposing parties may encounter conflicts derived from partisan politics. To suggest they all be housed in the same building is foolish. In any case, don't this government have more important things to focus on or are they just focused on what they think they can manage?

What shit you talking about concocting? It's a fact that the PPP cooked up a 99 year lease of the Red House to a shell company for peanuts. The building must first be returned to the state. It is not the PPP or Jagan's property.

This government has already looted the treasury of $400 million by setting up a bogus asset recovery unit that has not retrieve anything allegedly misappropriated by the PPP/C government. the ARU is a smokescreen to cover daylight thievery of the nation's wealth by accounting firms run by supporters of the PNC. Why not contract an international auditing firm that is free of political ties?  Guyanese people should demand that a unit be set up to investigate the Asset Recovery Unit.

$400 million is incorrect. Why pay an international firm when we have qualified people in Guyana? Keep the money local to boost the economy. You are probably one of those people who still think that Jagdeo and his merry band of thieves saved their salaries to buy those Pradoville mansions and the lifestyle that goes with it. They must have gotten a million percent interest from the bank.

Go read the Auditor General's report which details the PPP corruption everywhere. This is not the auditors hired by the current government but the same Auditor General who was appointed during the PPP reign.
