The Office of the First Lady has been working to develop recreational parks all across Guyana under the National Beautification Project.

On Friday, First Lady Mrs. Arya Ali officially launched two beautification projects for Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne).

“I am so happy to bring to you what I call my National Beautification Project; this project aims to promote scenic revitalisation, safe public spaces and green parks,” Mrs. Ali said.

She related that is her aim to establish such recreational spaces in every region of Guyana. The family-friendly spaces in Region Six will be constructed at Skeldon and the other at New Amsterdam at $100 million each.

“These projects will aim to promote quality family time,” Mrs. Ali related.

Two parks are also being developed in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo and La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara.

Mrs. Ali on Friday also revealed that the Kingston Seawall Beautification Project is pegged for completion in November this year.

“…it is your park and I urge all of you to come out and maximize the use of the parks and please ensure you take care of it,” Mrs. Ali said.

The recreational parks are also intended to promote and encourage healthy lifestyle practices through physical exercise and other activities.

Mrs. Ali further noted that the parks can also be used to host small cultural activities.

To ensure the facilities are maintained, a management committee will be set up.

The features of the parks include paved walkways, play areas for children, recreational gazebos, fountains, washroom facilities, concrete drains, benches, adequate lighting and landscaping.
