Guyana's First lady Sandra Granger is the third child of eight and a mother of two. Her mother who is 90 years old lived at Mabaruma North West District and was a member of the Pierre family.
Her father, Mr Chan-A-Sue, now deceased, came from Suriname and was of Chinese descent.
She attended Sacred Heart Primary and St. Joseph High School. She also attended the University of Guyana and has two degrees in English Literature and Portuguese Studies. She was awarded a scholarship to study in the United States where she earned her Masters in Brazilian Portuguese Studies. She is versed in Latin American Politics and Anthropology. She was at one time a Lecturer at the University Of Guyana and also worked at the Caricom Secretariat. She is a strong advocate for Women's Rights and National Unity. Her role models are Michelle Obama and Mrs Viola Burnham. One of the many first projects she would like to undertake as First Lady is that of Child Protection.
