As reports of sightings of escaped Camp Street prisoner Stafrie Hopkinson Alexander called “Mad Dog”, ranks in ‘B’ Division have launched a search and in the process, based on information received, arrested four men and a woman in connection with the escaped convict.
Reports reaching this publication states that the four men were arrested between Tuesday and Wednesday. All are from Babu Jaan, Port Mourant, and Rose Hall town. The woman is said to be the mother of one of the men who was previously charged and released on bail for Spready’s Money Gram robbery that took place earlier in 2017.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the five persons were picked up based on reports that they were aiding and assisting the escapee in Berbice. Alexander is said to be hiding in the Port Mourant Backlands. Up to press time members of the joint forces were combing the area. The source also disclosed that one of the persons in custody was taken into the backlands to lead ranks to the area where the escapee is believed to be hiding. It was revealed that Alexander knows the area well, and he is using this knowledge to his advantage.
Ranks on the police mobile patrol were seen scouting the New Forest area, East Canje, Rose Hall and Port Mourant while a helicopter flew overhead.
Meanwhile, Sookdeo Singh, speaking with reporters relayed that around 17:30 hrs on Tuesday, three police vehicles pulled up at his home. The ranks, he stated, headed in different directions to search his entire yard, house, abandoned houses in the street at Port Mourant. Eventually they held onto his wife Angela Singh. She was subsequently taken into custody.
According to the man he is baffled as to why his wife was arrested and is unaware that his son Jageshwar Singh, called Ravan, 19, was also arrested.
“Dem police na seh nutten; dem come and break down the fence at the back ah me yard and search up dem old house. Then dem tek me wife”, the man said.
Jageshwar Singh is said to be cooperating with authorities as they seek information of Alexander’s whereabouts.
