Five nurses
suspended after opening bodybag to admire dead patient’s genitals: Report
On Tuesday, Denver Health Medical Center spokesman Josh Rasmussen confirmed to KMGH that five nurses were suspended in May for three weeks. A tip to the local station alleged that the nurses praised the size of the late man’s genitals.
Another nurse reportedly overheard their co-worker make an inappropriate comment about the incident and reported it to hospital staff.
“Multiple staff members viewed the victim while he was incapacitated, including after he was deceased,” a Denver Police report detailed. “The complainant, Risk Management for Denver Health, made a mandatory report.
Though two nurses were reprimanded after an internal investigation, Rasmussen said five nurses were suspended following a full investigation. Four of the nurses have since returned to the hospital. A fifth nurse no longer works for Denver Health but wasn’t terminated, the spokesman stated.
The Denver Police Department was reportedly involved at one point but decided to let the hospital handle the issue internally.
Denver District Attorney’s Office communications director Ken Lane said Denver Police and an on-call prosecutor “determined there was insufficient evidence to prove a crime was committed, no charges were filed and referred the matter back to Denver Health to handle internally.”
