Police in ‘D’ Division arrested five suspected bandits minutes after they robbed the proprietor and patrons at Nancy Sports Bar at Parika, East Bank Essequibo(EBE) on Tuesday night.

Reports indicate that the robbery occurred minutes before midnight when the masked gunmen drove up in a Toyota Allion bearing registration PPP 8242 and proceeded to commit the robbery.

Anti-crime patrols in the division intercepted two of the suspects in the car at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara (WCD) and the third suspect was intercepted on public transportation at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge; he was arrested with the firearms and ammunition, two toques, and the stolen articles. Another person suspected to be an accomplice was also arrested in the said vehicle.

The suspects hail from Diamond East Bank Demerara, Kuru Kururu on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, Albouystown in the city, and Best Village, West Coast Demerara.
Residents in the area disclosed that while the proprietor along with the patrons were in the Sports Bar, a black car drove up and the three men exited the car, two of them were masked and armed.

Inquiries reveled that one of the robbers held the proprietor at gun point while another bandit robbed two patrons.
The robbers then ran back to the car and fire a shot in the air and sped off. The car was allegedly driven by a 19-year-old taxi driver who was identified as Raymond Lindo of Diamond East Bank Demerara. The other  bandits held were identified as Derick Pealey, 24, of Kuru Kuru Squatting area , one Trevor Joseph and Joseph Jaisingh.

Recently, Commander, Edmond Cooper organised a march against “Crime and Traffic Lawlessness” from the Den Amstel Police Station to Leonora Police Station.
He had noted that police partnership with the community was very important in catching criminals.
The Commander had noted that way the police treat individuals and communities with which they interact on a daily basis can make a difference in the reduction of crime and by treating people equally, making decisions fairly, explaining those decisions, and being respectful, the police can encourage people to cooperate with them and not break the law.

Jail them for life with hard labor, let them break quarry stones for the road ways.No free food and five star service.

First try them in court then sentence them to any punishment that the Judge may deem reasonable. We cannot create a Wild West and Vigilante Justice society. Some of these youths can be rehabilitated and reintegrated back into society. People make mistakes in life.

This is one of the few sensible things that you said.  No country can adopt a "jail them all" attitude because for every criminal locked up another one will be replaced.

1.  If the elites of a society are corrupt then so will the dregs be and the dregs can only engage in violent crime.

2.  The root causes of youth involvement in crime should be dealt with otherwise the pipeline of criminals will be never ending.  This includes weakening family structures, an educational system which doesn't provide kids with the hard and soft skills that they need to get and sustain employment, and of course a weak job market and low wages.

3.  Rehabilitation of younger offenders should be part of the process.  They should be isolated from the hard core criminals and provided with job ready skills.

4.  Our ineffective system of crime fighting needs to be radically improved.  This has been said for over 20 years, but it appears as if neither the PPP or APNU/AFC have the ability, or even interest to resolve this.  The PPP used paramilitias to protect the elites and God knows what the coalition does, aside from making excuses.

I remember visiting GT in 1978 and it was squeaky clean. There were also prisoners cleaning and weeding.

Rather than just have the "cutting grass" they should be trained to start and manage landscaping companies once their sentences end.  Clearly these aren't the worst prisoners otherwise they wouldn't have been allowed out onto the streets.

You miss my point. Look at these boys, comprised of all races. Why is there not some sort of public works program to clean up all dem dutty trenches, pave the roads and bruk up quarry stones thus creating jobs for these young people so they don't have to go to prison? In other words - mek dem bruk up quarry stones BEFO prison, not during.

And fuh de weak ones dat kyant bruk stone, give dem a uniform and a notebook and have dem walk rung GT and ticket dem nasty skonts who throwing shit in de trench. Dat should raise revenue and more to pay fuh some public works.

None of de above is rocket science. Guyana has just become a land of lazy teefmen from the lowest all de way to de top. Refusal to think, and when they do it's to figure out how dem kyan TEEF.

Granger gat he hand full wid dis teefman complex running wild in Guyana. Everybody juss wan teef.

You are correct ,i missed the "BEFORE they teef" create work.

any way in the olden days trench cleaning, road embankments cleaning, for that matter all drainage cleaning were done by the Local Authorities,my cousins, brother and my self use to do that in our later teenage years,we had no pride to put a dollar in our pockets. On my last visit to Guyana my observation was the landscape have changed, there are over grown bushes all over the place.

These modern day young ones wants to make a fast buck,so they end up on the wrong side of the law.

DJ, this administration campaigned and received a vast amount of youth votes when they promised to make the youth the foundation of their future and ended up giving a bunch of old army men the tops positions.

Youths of Guyana are helpless and hopeless under the PNC today since they were lied to by the AFC/PNC . The economy is stagnant, youths are desperate. It will get worse.
