False report targets GRA lawyer

December 7, 2015 | By | Filed Under News

A report about the Guyana Revenue Authority assessing and recommending that Attorney at Law Hissaun Yasin-Nandlall be demoted was a document that may have been tampered with, according to Chairman of the GRA Board, Rawle Lucas.
In the wake of the publication in the Friday issue of Kaieteur News, Mr. Lucas said that the Board never discussed Ms. Yasin-Nandlall because there was nothing to discuss.
A document seen by Kaieteur and forwarded to Mr. Lucas suggested that Ms. Yasin-Nandlall was under-performing and was costing GRA some $845,000 in retainer fees per month.
Ms. Yasin-Nandlall said that such a recommendation might have been made five years ago when she was experiencing difficulties with the GRA administration.
She said that someone wishing to embarrass her must have doctored the document seen by Kaieteur News and released it.
Given the circumstances the newspaper apologises to Ms. Yasin-Nandlall.

Bibi

We must be vigilant and speak out against this racist PNC government. We must never be silent.

The upside of this issue is that Kaieteur News recognized that it was deceived with a forged document and has apologized, which is the proper thing to do.

It is not unusual for people with malicious intent to provide the news media with false information disguised in documents that appear genuine.

Kaieteur News should have contacted Hissaun Yasin-Nandlall for her comment before rushing to publish its report in the first place.

Gilly, I think that this apology should be on the front page of KN rather than being tucked away in a  corner on page 19. Ms. Nandlall should force them to put it on the front page for a week and embarass the daylights out of KN. Who knows the impact of the embarassment this has caused Ms. Nandlall.

Ms. Nandlall should take legal action and sue KN. It is the proper thing for her to do. An apology is not acceptable. KN acted in a very reckless manner.
